Common Orthopedic Injections Workshop

  This interactive skill workshop will review the most common orthopedic injections.  Patients frequently present to the emergency department, primary care office, or urgent care center with orthopedic complaints.  A review of joint anatomy, indications and contraindications for joint injections will be discussed.  Joint injections will be reviewed utilizing case presentations and demonstrations. Simulation of the injections will be practiced with demonstration and re-demonstration on anatomical models.

Objectives

    the upper extremity.
  2. Discuss indications for upper
    extremity injections – shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers.
  3. Discuss the anatomical structures of
    the lower extremity
  4. Discuss indications for lower
    extremity injections – knee, ankle & foot
  5. Discuss techniques used to
    administer cortisone
  6. Discuss the risks associated with
    cortisone injections
  7. Demonstrate the techniques and
    procedure for joint injections
